What’s Happening in Hurricane Creek?
-
Our Annual Christmas Parade had a wonderful turnout! We feel so fortunate to live in a neighborhood that puts on these types of events. HUGE thank you to Erin Rymer for organizing the parade!
-
Winner for Best Christmas Outdoor Decorations goes to 9028 Jenny Lynn Dr.
-
Thursday, January 18th: Our next HOA Neighborhood Meeting will be at Christ United Methodist Church, in room A14 at 6:30pm. We can’t wait to see you there!
-
Saturday, April 29th: Semi-Annual Neighborhood Yard Sale. While specific sale times are ultimately up to each yard sale host, it is expected that a general time will be 7am-early afternoon. We encourage those hosting a sale to post signs at the end of your road indicating that you are hosting a yard sale. At the end of the yard sale, please pick up the yard sale signs you put out.
-
As a reminder, please do not dump any trash in our neighborhood, even at the split/islands; this includes yard debris. Thank you to the individuals and families who volunteer to pick-up trash on a weekly basis! There is a significant need for more families and households to be on our list of weekly clean-up volunteers for the 2024 year. If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email to hoa@hurricanecreek.com, including any questions you may have.

Entryway Road Paving
Surely you have noticed that the patchwork of lumps, bumps and potholes on Hurricane Creek Road has been remedied by repaving. Now that we have a smooth city portion of our roadway on which to drive, PLEASE send a thank you to Councilman Ledford (dledford@chattanooga.gov; Off. 423.643.7184; Cell 646.645.8317) and to Perrin Lance (pjlance@chattanooga.gov; Cell 423-567 5389; Off. 423 643 5773), to let them know how much we appreciate the work that has been done.
Actually, it is quite remarkable that this even occurred: When Councilman Ledford came to a meeting of the HOA Board this summer at their invitation, he announced in no uncertain terms that Hurricane Creek Road would receive no attention from the city, because:
-
It was not in the current budget and would not be considered for several more years;
-
Our roadway scored a 48 (on a scale of 1–100) when there are roadways in much worse condition,
-
Our tax base of 42 city properties (out of the 580+ property residents using Hurricane Creek Road) was not sufficient to compel the city to take action.
The community was asked at the September General Meeting to contact the city and county representatives, and that may have made a difference. In the end, the city did address our situation, so we ask you to please express your thanks.
Going Fully Paperless in 2024
The HOA has been encouraging Hurricane Creek residents to go paperless with newsletters and other neighborhood communications. We aimed to go fully virtual by the end of 2023, which will cut out significant mailing expenses from the 2024 Hurricane Creek budget. To further execute this, all residents not signed up to go paperless and not up to date on dues will only receive the newsletter for Quarter 1 (set for January) of the 2024 year. The three following quarters (April, July, October) will be emailed out.
To ensure that you will receive the newsletter, and therefore stay up to date on what is going on in Hurricane Creek:
-
Go to our home page and fill out the form under “Stay Updated and Go Paperless!” Fill out the form and you will be signed up for paperless communications right away.
-
Make sure you have paid your 2024 dues of $35/year. If not, click here to go to our home page and make your annual payment.
Neighborhood Safety Reminders:
-
Always keep doors locked.
-
Keep exterior lights on at night and consider motion lights.
-
Consider installing smart lights, video surveillance and security systems.
-
Get to know your neighbors, and look out for one another. If you ever notice suspicious activity at someone’s home, please contact 911 in an emergency or 423-698-2525 in a non-emergency.
- Remove your home photo (or blur it) on Google maps. This reduces someone’s ability to assess access points into your home. *Jeanna Lee posted a “how to” on the neighborhood Facebook page for blurring/taking away home photos from Google
-
PLEASE never share when you or your neighbors are out of town on social media.
Hurricane Creek Small Businesses:
- We want to include businesses run by residents within our neighborhood in our next newsletter! For consideration, please email your name, name of business, contact info, & a short description of your business to hoa@hurricanecreek.com. We would love to support our neighbors!
Questions? We would love for you to bring any questions you have to our next HOA meeting, which will be held Thursday, March 9th at Christ United Methodist. For more urgent matters, please email us at hoa@hurricanecreek.com. As always, feel welcome to post questions in our Hurricane Creek Facebook Group. |
How Can I Help?In order for the HOA to effectively update neighborhood information, we are asking homeowners to fill out the Hurricane Creek Neighborhood Team form, which can be found on the homepage of our website, hurricanecreek.com. |
